As female gamers the act of going into a game store can be a good, or bad experience. More often than not we've found it's the latter "is it a gift for your boyfriend?", no moron, it's a gift for myself, I like to frag! Anyway, we've come across a little Aussie gem, no we're not being paid, this is a selfless act of bigging up a game store with a difference.
We'd never heard of 'GameTraders', having moved to Queensland from bonny Scotland, but always having to walk into a game store, in we wandered, bracing for the worst. One of the guys working behind the counter looked pretty young -- here's part one of the gem bit. Never judge a book by its cover, this guy was a gent, chatty, knowledgable and an asset to the store, so was the guy working wth him.
More to this, every staff member we've dealt with in the Hypderdome Gametraders at Logan has been polite, never assuming that we're not gamers ourselves, that we're purchasing for someone else or most annoyingly that we know nothing about gaming because we're women. They're as passionate about games as we are and we think they deserve a big w00t! If you happen to be in the area, pop into the store and make a purchase, you won't be sorry you did.

As a girl gamer it only makes me wish I lived in australia, which I don't, I live in Cali. My local game place is okay, but that's about it. No-one ever talks to me about games there (probably why I comment on gaming blogs ha!)I wonder if they assume I'm not the gamer? Anyway, nice site, keep up the good work aussie gamer gals.
My towns game shop annoys me, they know next to nothing about games. I go in and say do you have 'insert not top ten game here' and they look blankly and always have to look it up on the system. It would be ace to have a game shop where they loved gaming as much as me so kudos to the one you mentioned, shame it's no where near me :(
Hey ladies, I checked out the stores official page, looks like there are loads of them in the land downunder. I work in a game store and always try and be polite and talk shop (ie gaming). It's also nice for a game store to get positive feedback so I mailed them, hope that was okay. I know I love it when I get a nice bit of feedback from a customer. I added your RSS to my iGoogle. Keep on gaming!
Great to hear of your good experience ladies. There are around 40 Gametraders stores in Australia including my own store in Ballarat Victoria. As a group, we pride ourselves in excellent customer service.
Find your closest store at www.gametraders.com.au
Did you also know that you can search for new and pre-owned games in stock at all stores and that you can request games to be posted to you from any store? Check it out. www.gametraders.com.au
Hey Girls, you wouldn't beleive we came accross another Gametraders store that was service at its best, not only did they help fix a problem with our PSP they were down to earth and fully interested in finding out what we needed. To the point they got it shipped from another one of their stores. This of all places was in Mt Isa. For all you who don't know it is a small mining town 2000km from anywhere. As we were travelling they posted the game ahead to our next port. Go Gamegirls. Gametraders Rocks
Kim
Great stuff Ray and Kim,
an absolutely wicked store at a few places then. Good to hear other positive stories about Gametraders. Sadly no Gametraders in Cali Ryan, but we're happy to hear any positive comments about your local stores, or negative ones come to that.
Lou it is definitely annoying when game store staff don't know about anything other than the top selling titles, sadly it happens all too often. Great to have you here Colvin and thanks for the add.
i'll give ya a bad story, not about this australia store you're all happy with, this is a shop in my town. It's a big electronic store and i had preorder something in there one time, so i show up to get it on the day, but apparently they have none left. Then i find out this dweeb that works there made sure his pals got said item whether they preordered it or not! Sure it was over a year ago, sure i'm almost over it, ok maybe not, it still p's me off i had to wait another month!!!! :(
Hey Moo, that is harsh. I had a similar experience a few years ago with this big mech game on the Xbox that I pre-ordered from GAME. I was told I would definitely get one, so I didn't double pre-order and I never got it, yet the deputy manager did get one as I heard him talking about it.
Nice blog....
